Hello Everyone! I hope you're all having a great day.

I figured it's about that time that I posted some news on what is going on sooo...
For the past month I have taken a break from programming the game and worked on another smaller project (which I will get to in a minute). Because of my non-workingness (and a lack of communication) our team here have taken an unofficial haitus for the past month as well. Looking back, I think this was necessary to clear our minds as we have been working for months and months on this game.

So, to announce our coming back to work I have added 64x64 sprites (I'll post a new screeny tonight) as well as added some of the basic elements required for quest scripting. There are still little things we have to touch up with the world map but overall it's looking good. I will be adding the first few quests soon as well. My next goal is to add the guilds back in and work on the faction alignment system.

Overall we are starting to move away from the mapping phase and moving into the development phase. This brings us one step closer to the beta test and then the official release. :D

Now, the other project I was talking about is a little program called Computer Talk. It came about as a result of myself not being able to find a good FREE voice recognition program. After searching and trying things out for a few hours I got fed up and decided to write my own voice recognition program. So I did and I have made it available in a new forum called Downloads. The direct link is: <a href='http://mb.drackir.com/index.php?showtopic=337'>http://mb.drackir.com/index.php?showtopic=337</a>
Be sure to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS if you download it. It is very important that you set your computer up to know how to listen to your voice before you actually use the program. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome.

You can't have two that are different? Or does the front page just read it from here, or? Surely you could make them both work?

I'd try the voice recognizer if I didn't hate Windows so very very very very very very very very very very very very very much.

It reads it from here. Originally you couldn't even view the posts in this forum but I wanted people to be able to make replies about news so I opened it up.

Well, this has been a very productive conversation about said news.
Good job with the voice recog software, throw it up on sourceforge or something, at least license it under the GPL and set it free on the internet. Oh wait, it seems you used Micros*ft libraries or something. I am disappointed. That would have been a beautiful thing.

Meh. It's a simple program and easily re-creatable. I'm sure you can find better ones out there. :P

Hm... It could be that nobody ever finds the incentive to initiate something like that, but if you slap some good ol' PR down, you'll have loads of groupies all willing to carry out what they see as a brilliant opportunity. Open source voice recognition? That could change the face of technology. Think of all the applications!
Again, this is assuming the right things are said in the right circles, maybe a public speech (as nerdy as you care for) about the different aspects of the code, where you would like to see it go, at a Linux convention. People will sign up because they'd rather sit out something like Preconfiguring Your Data Tables to Modify Your MP3 Streams.

Oh wait, that sounds cool too. I kept thinking about that... a while back. Fun randomness. A switch is flipped here, the song responds by upping an octave, the videocard synchs, notes 1 through 4 move up two notes, somebody pings your machine, the drum beat freezes and then restarts will a roll...
Just crazy notes influenced by a plethora of unconnected events. Heck, turn it into a cryptograph machine. This is as ludicrously close to random as you'll see in this frame of reality.

Actually, this comes close to my other idea, which was to paint a picture using music analyzing software. Something like... the first few bars of the analyzer define X to the third decimel place, the next few define Y, and the rest are split up into hue and saturation. The end result would be an extremely detailed bitmap (ok, so I dislike bmps) that seems completely random, but would be the tag for, say, Mogwai, Stop Coming to my House. Discerning critics would be easily able to tell that apart from hip-hop or whatever those idiotically-clad rappers and pop-singers are singing. The quality of the image of the song, you know?

People have been there already. :P

Hmm. I don't really get it about the music picture. Would it edit a pre-existing image or make its own? If it made its own it would only be a bunch of random pixels. Lol I don't think it would work to be honest. :P Also, pixels don't have decimal places! :P :P

I pictured a cartesian plane, drawing points on the graph instead of pixels. Thus, decimals. Keeps you from having to mess a lot with the numbers to make them fit in the box, neh? Dunno. Initial imaginings.
And yes, it would start an image from scratch. The song would 'paint' a picture. The final product would be somewhat of an impression of the audio in static image form.
Anyways, Just an idea. Probably one of my side-projects when I become an uber coder of doom.

Pixels are on a cartesian plane. Hence each pixel has X and Y coordinates. I have no idea what you would use the decimals for. :P

MAGIC! WALNUTS! A ROOM WITH A MOOSE! And a candybar made of pure happy.
I meant that I'd break the pixels to fit a box, not the other way around. Modifiers on the pixel number. The more I talk, the less I mean. Ignore the man behind the curtain.

...In the initial concept, the idea was to not draw on the most basic level: pixels.
You don't code in machine language. You don't paint (irl) pixel by pixel.

When extrapolating the numbers, the first priority is not to convert to pixels. That may be a simpler approach, but I was reaching for a feeling of art, not math.
Near the end of the image production, sure, it would have to be converted into pixels in a common image format, for practicality. But before it reaches that level, the numbers would be in a more abstract form, which on a whim in my imagination was set up generally with a rough graph.

Anyways. Not important. If it ever happens, you're right, I'll probably just use pixels.

I'm at work!
