I'll just make a bunch of lists that might be helpful. You can throw some of these names together to make decent item names, i.e. tin sabre, yew longbow. Where applicable, I'll make notes for future reference in craft skills.
Swords: short sword, longsword, broad sword, sabre, cutlass, scimitar, katana, wakizashi, no-dachi, gladius, zweihander, flamberge, dirk, bastard sword
Blunt: mace, maul, morningstar, warhammer, club, cudgel, flail
Claws and gloves: knuckles, bracer, gauntlet
Staves: quarterstaff, bo, cane, rod, wand, scepter
Bows and thrown weapons: short bow, longbow, recurved bow, composite bow (strengthened with metal or bone), greatbow, crossbow, semiautomatic crossbow (such as in medieval China; I'm not making this up

), arbalest, shuriken, balanced dagger, throwing axe, javelin, bola, sling

Shield: targe, buckler, kite shield, tower shield
Body armor: plate, tunic, robe, suit, mail, shirt, coat, chain, mesh, scale, banded
Real-world weapons-grade metals (in order of strength): copper, tin, bronze (tin+copper), iron, steel (made from iron), damascus (reinforced steel)
Fantasy/less feasible metals: mithril (pretty stereotypical by now), carbon/diamond (in theory, this is possible), silver (only practical for weapons in fantasy), obsidian (which is, in real life, actually sharper than steel)
Lumber: yew (good for bows), oak (good for shields)
Other materials: linen (made from flax), cotton, wool, silk, hide, leather (cured hide), hardened leather (leather boiled and shaped for hardness), bone/ivory
