from the 5/8/06 conference:
$499 for 20 gig PS3
$599 for 60 gig PS3

You have to wonder how much these consoles actually cost to make... $100 for just a 40 gig upgrade?? That is robbery at retail pricing nevermind whatever huge wholesale discounts they are getting.

A few months ago i got a 200gig Seagate for $80 and prices for hard disk storage seem to gradually be going down. ><

I thought they were going for a 60 and 100gb hd? Is there a site with these prices?

Just read this about 20GB:
No longer is there dual screen support via dual-HDMI. Now there is only one HDMI port, and further still, the HDMI port only features on the 60GB configuration.
The 20GB config has also lost wireless support and the card reader for Memory Stick, Compact Flash and SD.

So it's not JUST the HD, there's some other little things too.

It also seems they dumped the boomerang controller and went back to a similar controller design to the dual-shock.

Ah, the source i read didnt mention all that. Still all those seem like pretty cheap components(dont know about the HDMI output) but i guess they could add up.

Looks like the basic one will be good enough for my needs. Theres no way i see myself affording a HDTV in the near future. I already have a wireless adapter for my xbox. I dont plan on using it to dl much from the online marketplace(mostly just maps, profiles, ect.) so i wont need the extra 40 gigs. The 360 seems to be a better way to view pics/movies and listen to mp3s by streaming over lan/wan than physically plugging in various flash memory modules.

btw... thank god they got rid of that boomerang controller! why change what works?

Here's some more info (ps3land.com):

The PlayStation 3 will launch in Japan on 11 November, and in North America, Europe and Australisia six days later on 17 November.

There will be two bundles (or 'configs' as they called them): a 20GB version and a 60GB version. However, the differences go far deeper than that.

The 20GB config does not feature any HDMI ports. It does not support WiFi, and there is no card reader for Memory Stick, Compact Flash and SD. It has four USB ports and one ethernet port (instead of the six USB ports and three ethernet ports shown last year).

The 60GB config has one HDMI port (instead of the two shown last year), it supports WiFi and has a card reader, and also features the four USB ports and one ethernet port.

Sony plans to have 2 million units available at launch, followed by another 2 million by Christmas, and a total of 6 million by March 2007.

Personally I don't really need the more expensive one. It's just a few extra things. But I do wonder how fast the HD will get filled up.

Depends what you are using the HD for. I never even came close to filling up my origional xbox drive by regular saving(never deleted a block) and i had downloaded various game updates and TONS of custom maps. The only way i see it filling up is if youre using the PS3 to dl movies/games/music from their online marketplace.

Yeah and I suppose it's networkable so you would think you could transfer stuff off it onto a PC as well.

Just found out some bad news about ps3.  I guess another thing that the cheaper model wont have is the bluetooth controllers(here).  Wireless controllers with the ability to power on/off the console are a great feature... but im not going to pay $100 bucks extra for that ability seeing as its the only thing id want on the better package.

If the ps3 package stays as currently configured(with the same pricing) ill probably just get a 360 in october when prices drop and wait till at least one if not two price drops for the ps3 premium.

Seems Sony did a great job of hyping everyone up at e3! ^^

I don't know what to think. There are a lot of sites that don't mention that at all and even Sony's site doesn't say anything. I'm going to wait for an official site from Sony or until I see the press conference that they announced that stuff.

P.S. Canadian Prices:
Canada: CAN $549 (20GB HDD) and CAN $659 (60GB HDD)
