650mH! That's right.
My laptop runs at a smooth 440.
Maybe someday when I'm not a pending student I'll make the upgrade.
Maybe someday when I have a job who's pay is not going straight into school.
Maybe someday when... *whimper*

Anyone else built themselves a computer?
Drackir i know this topic is a little old, but I built my compy last year. Intel of course. 3.4ghz oc'ed to 3.8 - 800mhz fsb, only a gig of kingston ram for now (has dual channel DDR2 for up to 4 gigs of ram). 2 - 10,000 RPM SATA HDDs, um x800 pro pci-e, um a spiffy x-alien case and mucho cooling units. I also just got a xpire clear glowy PSU because my old one fried my board.. That's pretty much it...
oh. High def audio with 7.1 surround sound..

So, I'm wondering what kind of budget I should build up before beginning to make these purchases. I really don't want to have a useless pile of parts sitting in my room for too long, so I hope to buy everything at once rather than in several installments.
What I'll be using it for? Primarily gaming (MMOs mostly, though games such as Oblivion are on the list of "Things I can't do with my current piece of crap, but am willing to trouble myself for"). So any suggestions for parts and a vague estimate of what a decent PC would cost to build would be greatly appreciated.

Cool, cool. After I finally buy the Wii, I can start saving for it. x_xI would say you could easily make a decent gaming PC for around $700-800.

Remember to include the extortionately priced Vista into it (pirating is not really an option any more).
Oh just in case anyone cares, i did add a $30 graphics card to my sisters. Performance went up significantly.

Well currently I have nothing, really. I have $340, but I plan to buy a Wii, Wiimote, and maybe a used game. So my PC budget is currently non existant, unless I wait for my birthday and don't buy a Wii for awhile. But I'll likely only get to a total of $600 from birthday money, and Vista will take about $160-260 (Home Premium - Ultimate) of that.Budget is the most important bit i guess. How much do you have to spend? 700-800 will buy you a NICE pc

So my only option appears to be to get a job.... Bleck.

Totally. I just picked up an application from both Barnes & Noble and GameStop, but if worse comes to worst, I'll probably have to settle for Albertson's or Wal-Mart.Just make sure you don't end up working some where like macdonalds, thats a crappy job no matter which way you throw the dice.Well currently I have nothing, really. You have to be very careful when overclocking. Generally, you can change setting in the BIOS (you can get into it when you boot the computer). If your motherboard is older it might not be able to overclock things through the BIOS so you might need to get software (if it's even possible. The key to overclocking is cooling though. You just have to make sure that your cooling system keeps your parts running at or below their optimal temperatures. Hopefully your mobo has temperature settings that tell you what the temp of the CPU and stuff is. But yeah basically, you just want to tweak things up a little bit, start the comp, check the temps, put a large load on the CPU (run some kinda benchmarking program or something that just takes a lot of the CPU like a new game) see how the temperature is feeling (make sure to check online what the optimal temperature is for your piece of hardware). If it can handle it then reset and up it a bit more. See how that goes and yeah that's about the basics. Just look online there's plenty of info on it.Just make sure you don't end up working some where like macdonalds, thats a crappy job no matter which way you throw the dice.Well currently I have nothing, really.
