Because I prefer it, and have seen far more capability to those with more skill than I.Then why are people still using photoshop?
Put frankly, I have never seen things from the gimp that were comparable to many things I've seen from photoshop.

Dude, Thank you.I'm sorry Casey, but the Gimp will never live up to PS.
As much as I like Gimp for being free, I miss my 'Ctrl-Shift-N' for new layers. And Moving selections. And those damn confusing floating selections that don't stick to layers...

Hate to sound harsh here, but this is a user problem.
The Gimp is hammered by an ever growing group of people (i.e. the community i.e. the world), all with usability issues, all with the ability, nay, the responsibility, to refine the program.
"Free" doesn't just mean "free beer". It means open source. People have had your problems and adapted the program.
Or given up, like you have. See above link.

If anyones wondering, you can download a full 30 day demo all over the place. I highly reccomended it if you want to transfer projects from the gimp too the PS. (though you'll need to find the transfer patch.)
PS. I wouldn't reccomend it for full scale digital editing however, it IS mostely orintated around simple photo corrections, but it does have layers and the like still.

The Gimp does simple photo corrections, plus everything else you could possibly want it to do.
So why settle for something that, as you've said, just has layers and does simple photo restoration?

This guy is great, but not the best. I've seen even better come out of Photoshop, yet have yet to see anything even close to it come out of the Gimp. Prove me wrong, and I'll gladly shut up.

The photo restoration work and the logo isn't mine, but everything else is.

And acrylic paint is a sucky medium because James sucks at that, too.
In fact, unless absolutely everyone in the world is a genius at any one thing,
