In this case, the story is much funnier than the implied joke.Entire situation explained, the reason I know is this: Megell woke up without pants, and decided to go the day wearing no pants. So it came to pass that Ben entered the room in which I awoke, not wearing pants. And thus I knew what kind of underwear he was wearing (though I had to ask again afterwards for the purposes of the joke).
